Edited by comet discoverer and author David H. Levy, Sky's Up is the official publication of the AstronomyOuteach network, a non-profit educational organization. Published quarterly in digital format, Sky's Up inspires students, educators, and parents to explore and discover the night sky through written content, beautiful imagery, video, and learning resources. It contains articles about the culture of astronomy and its effect upon society, observing the universe, hands-on space science activities, and recognition and support of individuals and organizations for educational public outreach in astronomy. Beautiful star map and moon calendar supplements by the world-renowned celestial cartographer Wil Tirion are included to help people connect with the treasures of the universe, something that we are all a part of.

David Levy describes the vision and mission of Sky's Up Magazine

The Sun has just gone down over the treetops and hills to the west.

The sky is a deep blue. The curtain of the night is rising. What will it reveal? Has anything changed since last night's panorama of stars and planets?

To me, the idea of the sky changing is the most exciting of all. The sighting of a single meteor on the evening of July 4, 1956, woke me to the wonders of the night sky, and within four years I was committed, and single mindedly passionate, about observing the night sky.

Now we are beginning a magazine that will aim to put this simple idea into the minds of a new generation of people, in the hope that they will enjoy the sky as well. It will offer articles and pictures about looking up at the sky, watching the brighter planets, stars, and galaxies. It will most definitely emphasize the things that make the sky change, like eclipses of the Sun and Moon, meteor showers, comets that crawl across the sky, and stars that suddenly explode. These are events that really make the sky worth watching. Some we know will happen, but others surprise us.

The whole idea behind our effort is to inspire people of all ages, but particularly young people, to look up, enjoy, and appreciate the night sky. I hope you will enjoy reading these articles, but I hope even more that they inspire you to go outside in the evening and see the glories that the night sky has to offer.
